2-hr workshop at Amani Yoga in Medford

Saturday, April 20 th from 2 – 4 pm

$40 per person

Description: In this workshop we will be delving into the foundations of Ayurveda,

reviewing the three mind-body types (aka. Doshas), and their associated elements,

qualities, and characteristics.

Then, we will focus in on Kapha, the dosha type that is predominant in spring season.

We will learn to observe how Kapha is present in the environment around us, how it

effects our mind, emotions, and physiology, and learn practical takeaways on how we

can reduce kapha excess so we do not end up with an imbalance.

Students need to bring:

-Something to sit on

-notebook

-writing utensils

Students take home:

-kapha and springtime worksheet

-kitchari recipe

Show n’ tell:

-kitchari taste test

-tonge scraper, dry brush, nasyam

-small foods taste samples pass around

Outline:

I. Introduction:

a. credentials, who am I, etc

b. What is Ayurveda

II. Dosha types

a. Their elements

b. Their qualities

c. Characteristics

III. Spring season

a. Recognizing Kapha in our environment

i. Snowmelt and rivers rising (lymph of the earth)

ii. Cool/cloudy/rainy weather

iii. Sprouts, seeds, plants are growing

iv. The world awakens from slumber (bears come out of caves,

hibernating aminals wake up, humans begin to socialize again,

birds and squirrels are playful)

b. Recognizing kaphic changes in our physiology

i. Gained weight over winter

ii. Water retention

iii. Slow, sluggish, lethargy,

iv. Holding onto grief, sadness

v. Mucus in the lungs, respiratory disease

vi. Snot, sinusitis

IV. Kapha Balancing

a. Diet

i. Tastes: pungent, bitter, astringent foods

ii. Dry, light, warm, easy to digest, foods

iii. Cleansing time

iv. *Kitchari sample and taste

v. Share recipe

b. Lifestyle

i. Extra heat, sauna, sweat, wake up early, jumping running, vigorous,

sweating, breathing, don’t be comfortable, intense workouts

ii. *Dinacharya: dry brushing, tongue scraping, nasya *props and

demos
